We are well into Spring and both Coachella Fest & Stagecoach are in the books with record crowds. May is more subdued and but definitely a celebratory month starting with “Cinco de Mayo”, “Mother’s Day” and the upcoming “Memorial Day Weekend”. It’s kind of the start of summer and soon kids will be out of school to enjoy the summer activities and many of our snowbirds will have gone home.
LOVE & LOVE TENNIS FOUNDTION/FRITZ BURNS PARK, LA QUINTA: MAY/JUNE KIDS TENNIS CLINICS
The Love & Love Tennis Foundation is continuing May and June clinics at Fritz Burns Park every Saturday from 9-10:15am except June it will be from 8:30-9:45am due to the heat! Bring sports shoes. We have rackets, balls and instructors as well as drinks and snacks. Our clinics are for beginners but if you’re advanced you can still come out and help and we will also help you!! IMAGINE CHARTER SCHOOL COACHELLA VALLEY: June 22 to July 10, 2026
The Love & Love Tennis Foundation will be organizing an introductory Tennis clinic to be included in their Summer Sports Camp June 22- July 10 with kids ages 5 to 13 years old in their Airconditioned gym. This one will be only for the students attending Imagine Charter School. We hope to be able to open it up for kids in the neighborhood and will keep you posted.
BILLIE JEAN KING DOCUMENTARY “GIVE ME THE BALL”:
“GIVE ME THE BALL” Is a Billie Jean King Documentary about her life and career. It was produced by Elizabther Wolf & Liz Garbas. I went to see the Premier in Santa Monica at the Aero Theater and it was wonderful. It is an ESPN’s 30-30 Film so make sure you watch for it!
THE PASSING OF GORDON ZAWTUN: April 29, 2026
Gordon was loved by the tennis community for his long time comittment to kids and tennis. Last Wednesday, April 29th Gordon was found in his home onresponsive. I was suppose to meet him Thursday morning at Starbucks for a coffee and to talk about his junior program and NJTL tournaments which he had always hosted. He’d moved from Palm Valley to Palm Desert Resorter where he continued his kids programs teaching and caring for them and all the things that go with growing junior tennis in the valley. He was totally dedicated to the kids and tennis. I don’t know how the tennis community is going to do without Gordon and his contributions.
LOVE & LOVE TENNIS FOUNDATION GORDON MEMORIAL TENNIS SCHOLARSHIP
The Love & Love Tennis Foundation is honoring Gordon by naming two Scholarship Grants for a boy & a Girl for $1,000 each “THE GORDON ZAWTUN MEMORIAL TENNIS SCHOLARSHIPS”. A criteria will be developed in order to implement the Grant.
The tennis community will miss him and keep his legacy alive. Services for Gordon are May 30, 10:00am at the Well Spring Church

Junior USTA RRSM Tennis Tournaments will have a new home at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort starting this October. We have a very active schedule planned for all ages, including a camp for kids this upcoming summer. I will officially start on June 1st, to do lessons in the early morning’s and evenings to get through the upcoming summer heat!
I am also relaunching my newsletter to provide bimonthly updates on junior growth activities, including both tennis and pickleball events throughout the valley, as I will also try to include other activities and tennis information! To ensure the mailing list is current, I am restarting it after this message. This will be the final email sent to the current distribution list.
