August has flown by filled with tennis on TV and kids going back to school. I just got back from the BJK 16 & 18 Nationals in San Diego at The Barnes Tennis Center. My good friend Lornie Kuhle runs it and is one of the featured tennis events in SoCal. It hosts all the top American juniors in the country.
The 2026 USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 16s and 18s National Championships concluded with Thea Frodin winning the 18s singles title against Janea Preston 6-1, 6-0 and Shristi Selvan claimed the 16s singles title against Aarini Bhattacharya 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Thea won a wildcard into the main women’s draw while her opponent had a wildcard into the qualifying. What an opportunity!
INTERNATIONAL TENNIS HALL OF FAME:
Getting ready for Newport, R.I. where they will be inducting Roger Federrer and TV Commentator & player Mary Carillo. The whole place is buzzing and excited to have these two individuals and their family involved in all the daily activities…and I’ll vouch for that that there’s nothing like being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Money is on Roger crying!
U.S. OPEN:
Then onto the US Open and the Penthouse Suite at the King & Kloss residence in NY.
Lots of good times enjoying the perks of the name that’s on the USTA venue The Billie Jean King Tennis Center!
I think both the men’s & women’s is wide open, especially without Alcaraz & Sinner if they don’t play.
CHARLIE PASARELL’S BOOK “SERVES FIRST”:
He was ranked #1 in US in 1967, and founder of The Tennis Gardens at Indian Wells and ATP, & NJTL. It was a nice evening to reminisce about the good old days. It was also a fundraiser for SCT FOUNDATION at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club that celebrated it’s 100th Anniversary of opening.
FRITZ BURNS PARK, LQ KIDS CLINICS: SEPTEMBER 12, 2026
Starting September 12, 9-10:15am kids clinics will begin and run thru November and possibly December. Remember bring your sports shoes…we have rackets and balls, drinks and snacks.
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: OCTOBER 3, 2026
THE LOVE & LOVE TENNIS FOUNDATION will be celebrating HHM October 3, at Desert Mirage HS with about 80 middle school kids from the CVUSD.
They’ll enjoy traditional latin food and Folklorica dancers as well as the Pinata Bash!
