Hello everybody:

Summer is over and kids are going back to school and the US Open is right around the corner!

The Love & Love Tennis Foundation is also wrapping up it’s summer tennis clinics and gearing for the fall and new beginnings.  The foundation would like to thank Coachella & Indio High School’s coaches and tennis teams for hosting the summer tennis clinics.  We appreciate your time and willingness to join us in helping us grow tennis in the valley.

I would like to thank The USTA Foundation and Fila for their support of these High School clinics. We will be organizing the fall free kids High School clinics and hope to involve at least 6-8 schools in the various desert locations.  The Foundation is also hoping to work with the Desert Sands Unified School District in bringing tennis into the schools and working with kids of all ages.

I also would like to thank Rhenn Ramirez, Raquet Sports Director at Woodhaven C.C. He has done a great job running his summer tennis program for kids, sponsored in part by The Love & Love Tennis Foundation.

The Annalee Thurston Award Reception benefitting The Love & Love Tennis Foundation will take place Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Palm Valley Country Club since the” Banquet” Room during the BNP is not available. It’s a new and good change for us as our space will be considerably expanded and more room for our guests. I will provide more details later as they become available.

I will be announcing our next “Honoree” soon. You all know her and will agree that she is an amazing superstar with incredible tennis accomplishments!  STAY TUNED!

Shortly after The International Tennis Hall of Fame  Weekend in Newport this July, honoring Aussie player Lleyton Hewitt, I was  invited to attend the Inaugural Salon de Fama de Tenis in Mexico City. They were honoring the “Great” Rafa Osuna posthumously, who was tragically killed in a plane crash in 1969 on his way to Mexico.  The others who were  inducted were Raul Ramirez & Legendary Yola Ramirez who played in the 50’s & 60’s. It was an honor to be there and to know that his nephew Rafael Belmar Osuna along with his wife Claudia Hernandez Belmar and other tennis enthusiast were involved in wanting to promote the history and players of Mexico.  They are working hard to promote the future of Mexican tennis and future grassroot programs. (See photos of both attached)

I along with my friend Billie Jean attended The Billie Jean King National Hardcourts in San Diego this past week that featured the top 16’s & 18 juniors in the country. ALYSSA AHN who trains at The Barnes Tennis Center captured the girls 16 Nationals defeating unseeded CHRISTASHA MCNEIL 6-2, 6-3. ELEANA YU captured the 18’s singles against VALERIE GLOZMAN 6-3, 7-5. This will give her a Wildcard straight into the main draw of the U.S. Open and Glozman into the qualifying draw. What a great opportunity for both of them!

Congratulations to Tournament Director Lornie Kuhl and his committee who put on a splendid week of tennis.

On behalf of THE LOVE & LOVE TENNIS FOUNDATION Tory and I would like to wish all of you a HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND. Enjoy the last of the summer and prepare for the fall and cooler weather!

I also want to thank everybody for their donations who helped a lot of the kids in the summer play tennis and go to tennis camps. We appreciate your donations and can not do it with out your help. I spend a lot of personal time with different young kids on the court and try and give them my advise and experience as they navigate their tennis careers. I enjoy it very much and it allows me to be able to play tennis and try and stay in reasonable shape at my age. I have challenges that I look forward to as I move on in years and try and find the closest distance between one ball and the other! Tennis has been a great joy for me and it continues to be, especially when I am helping the kids!

Thank You All for the opportunity!!

Rosie Casals goes to Sacramento to talk Title IX

I was invited by Senator Nancy Skinner to speak to the Women’s Caucas in Sacramento about Title IX & the Equality Amendment and how it was experienced by me. Needless to say it was a treat and new experience to learn about the women in the Capitol and those around me and what they do. I was impressed with their passion and love for what they did and how hard they worked to represent women of all walks of life. The desire to elevate and enhance Women’s causes and make life better. It was enlightening to say the least. It humbles my contributions to women and equality and reminds me that a “Women’s work is never done”. I know that to be true…as one of the  “Greatest” social Activist Billie Jean King says
” I’m not done yet”. We  have lots to do to insure Title IX does not go by the way of Roe & Wade!
