Hello Everyone:
Hope your Father’s Day Weekend was a good one!
We are well into June and summer for everybody or June gloom if you’re by the sea! I’m excited about a few things in particular going to Wimbledon to Celebrate WTA’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY! We are going back to the scene of the crime the Gloucester Hotel. I’m sure some felt that way….we definitely were doing something behind closed doors that would prove to be epic and life changing for the women. The start of the association was no easy matter and it took a lot of convincing inside and outside of the room! It’s going to be great to return and try to imagine all that happened and has happened to bring us back 50 years later! Congratulations to all those who believed in the leadership! WAY TO GO WTA!
The second part to this was last weekend. I was in La Jolla to see the “Premier” of Billie Jean King’s play “LOVE ALL” written by Anna Deavere. I happened to have a nice roll in it and I congratulate Elena Hurst for making me look good! It was great to see it, especially when you had Billie Jean there laughing with me.
Now for kids tennis. We have 4 locations with the Love & Love Tennis Foundation sponsoring the free clinics. They will be at Indio & Rancho Mirage High Schools, Fred Burns Park in La Qunta and Woodhaven Country Club in Palm Desert. They will run for a month, 75 minutes each session, twice a week. We hope to expand this concept of having high school’s tennis coaches & teams put on the clinics in the summer. In return LLTF provides grants to the tennis teams to be used equally toward their tennis related expenses.
Schedule and contact information for clinics on website:
I also want to announce that I along with the Gonzales Family just started The Latin American Tennis Foundation to provide opportunities for Latinos of all ages and levels to excel in tennis. The Love & Love Tennis Foundation & the Richard Pancho Gonzalez Youth Foundation are working together on projects and events and as they come together we will let you know when and where! The foundation is also working on the Lantino Tennis Fiesta Weekend, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. We hope to partner with the city of Palm Desert to provide a weekend of tennis and festivities to include a kids tennis clinic, Piñatas, Mariachi Band and the Latin American Tennis Invitational. Dates to be confirmed soon.
Thank you for your continuous support of the Love & Love Tennis Foundation. We can’t do it without your help and appreciate your contributions. I’m off to Wimbledon in a couple of weekes and there will be more to come from Wimbledon and our WTA 50th Celebration. Soon after the ITHF in Newport, R.I.will behosting their Induction weekend and I am looking forward to those festivities as well!
Have a great summer and play lots of tennis!!
